Kinja'd!!!

I was sick last week with some sort of cold, my oldest boy then got it and spent most  of Sunday in bed, and now one of my twins is at the doctor getting tested for flu and strep after he started throwing up this morning. (Just heard from Mom that he has Flu A). His brother and Mom are as yet unscathed, but we’ll see if that lasts.

Wash your hands, people.

Have they had their Flu shots? (not asking in a finger waving way, more just curious.)

My youngest was hit by it Friday, better by Sunday. I picked it up on Saturday, my fever finally broke last night . We had our flu shots this year so it’s possible that we got off easy.

When mum and grand dad were still with us, they along with my step-father were on so many different tablets that any virus or bacterial event could seriously affect their meds and how they worked.

At first sign of a virus, infection, etc... I would clean high touch areas and spray Dettol disinfectant spray on all high and low touch areas for the next week.

This stuff has been a major saving grace, spray on and wipe high touch areas (always followed with another quick spray and left) , spray and leave on everything else from soft to hard surfaces (eg fabric to stone and metal).

There is always anti bacterial hand wash liquid soaps at each of the sinks.

Greenland, Iceland and Madagascar have now closed their borders, sea ports and airports.

Does it bother you that viruses technically arent even alive? Like, its a highly specific targeted self perpetuating chemical reaction. That kills people.

That’s gonna wreak havoc with Greenland’s spring tourism. Ack.

Drink plenty of fluids to keep you hydrated and it’ll also thin out the mucus making it easier to dislodge and cough up easing the pressure on your chest.

Also keep warm, viruses don’t really like the warmth, your body’s natural defence is to raise your temperature to kill off the virus, so try and get comfortable, but not cool yourself too much.

It’s been the apocalypse the last week and a half here at work. There are 3 people in my department of 30 who haven’t been out. I was one of the first to catch it and spent 2 days out last week.

Things are bad all over. I’m getting over mine, and I just spent 40 minutes in an unventilated practice room with a stick student.....

Sure did. Wouldn’t miss ‘em. It’s not a 100% shot, though. He might still get Flu B after having Flu A.

Yeah, just read below. Sorry, I should’ve rtfm. I think something missed on the flu shots and I’m not preaching to you is the reduced severity/mortality. O ft overlooked as to why people should want to get them.

No worries. I am a fervent believer in the importance of vaccinations. I am certain that my son feels better than he could be feeling is because he got the shot.

Replying here in case it’s another you’d like to write about. :-)x

The same National Geographic has a story on the short (at the time) history of flight. There’s a blurb on Langley’s 1896 steam powered (!) Ae rodrome No. 5 with this picture. Took me by surprise .

I’m not sure that picture is legit. Langley did get the unpiloted Aerodrome No. 5 to fly twice, but I can’t find anywhere that he achieved any sort of altitude like that.

Internet says 80-100ft of altitude. At first I was in agreement something seems fishy, then I looked into the wingspan. No. 5 was only 13ft across . If you were to turn it sideways there’ s room for roughly 6 of the sideways Aerodromes between the original and the water . Seems about right to me.
